Brass Academy Dalmellington update Karin McKenzie and the team of Ralph Riddiough, Lynsay Brown, Fiona Kennedy, Rebecca Wilson, Paul Jamieson and others give up their free time to train our young beginners every Sunday. We have 20 young players aged around 10-12 years who meet regularly for individual tuition and to play as a group. It is truly inspiring what this team from the senior band are doing to continue the legacy of the tutors they have been inspired by. Watch out for the summer concert, it will be “mega”.
We’ve been as busy as ever since our last bulletin. The 72nd Cecil Oughton memorial Slow Melody in February was once again a fantastic day of playing and we were all especially proud to listen to the first solo performances from our young Brass Academy beginners. Many thanks to all who make this such a great day year after year and keep the tradition going. A full breakdown of the day is noted in the news section.
Shortly after that, on March 12th, the Scottish Championships was once again held in Perth Concert Hall and the senior Dalmellington Band were well prepared for the challenge. On the day we finished 4th behind Bo’ness & Carriden, CWS Funeralcare and the Whitburn Band in top spot. A creditable performance but not quite what we had hoped for - it is tough at the top!
